17th Century James II Oak Bible Box
James II Oak Bible Box, 17th century. Beautifully carved and with lovely colour and patination, it has a gentle slope to the top. The box is lined inside with newspaper dated September 15 1868. On top of the newspaper are pages from a botanical book, and the prints are dated 'engraved and published 1794'. Would make a lovely blanket box or ottoman at the end of the bed, or keep it in a living room for storage.

Height (max) 14" (36cm)
Width 27.75" (70.5cm)
Depth 19.25" (49cm)
Ref: ARH4020
Price: £2,500

Georgian Writing Slope with Stand and Secret Compartments
Antique Rosewood writing slope on matching stand, and with hidden compartments, c1830.

The box is embellished with brass inlays and detaches from the stand if required. When open it is stable enough to write on. Inside is a green leather writing surface, each side lifts up to reveal a storage area. The pen tray can be pushed down at one end so that it lifts up to give a hidden storage area. In addition, pulling up the divider on the bottom left of the box causes the inner frame to pop off, revealing three small drawers. This mechanism works very smoothly.
There is a large crack in the base of the box,as can be seen in the last photograph, but this does not affect the stability of the box.

Height of stand: 61 cm
Box: Height 16.5 cm Width 45 cm Depth 25.5 cm

19th Century Mahogany Writing Slope
Antique mahogany brass bound writing slope, with the usual hidden drawers inside. The black leather writing surface is split across the hinge, which is sadly quite normal for these boxes. The pen rest may be a replacement as it is a little too narrow, however this is not very noticeable. The brass cartouche has not yet been engraved.

Height 6.5" (17cm)
Width 13.75" (35cm)
Depth 9.5" (24cm)

19.75" (50cm) total length when open.
