| Brass Bound Rosewood Jewellery Box with Drawer C 1860 |
A wonderful antique rosewood jewellery box with brass bound edging, two sets of brass stringing, and brass cartouche and escutcheons. The interior edges of the box are also inlaid with brass.
The box has a pull out lockable jewellery tray with green silk and velvet, and gold embossed top edges to the dividers. The tray has a specific place for necklaces, bracelets or watches, and for rings, as well as other compartments.
The lid of the box has a hidden spring loaded mechanism to release a black tooled leather envelope. There is also a black leather tooled and padded mirror stored in the lid.
This interesting box would be perfect for the desk as well as for its original purpose as a jewellery box.

| Georgian Writing Slope with Stand and Secret Compartments |
Antique Rosewood writing slope on matching stand, and with hidden compartments, c1830.
The box is embellished with brass inlays and detaches from the stand if required. When open it is stable enough to write on. Inside is a green leather writing surface, each side lifts up to reveal a storage area. The pen tray can be pushed down at one end so that it lifts up to give a hidden storage area. In addition, pulling up the divider on the bottom left of the box causes the inner frame to pop off, revealing three small drawers. This mechanism works very smoothly.
There is a large crack in the base of the box,as can be seen in the last photograph, but this does not affect the stability of the box.
